If you think a child or an adult with care and support needs is in immediate danger, phone 999.

Safeguarding is a term used in the United Kingdom and Ireland to denote measures to protect the health, well-being and human rights of individuals, which allow people, especially children, young people and vulnerable adults, to live free from abuse, harm and neglect.

The Rackham C of E (VC) Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The Rackham expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All staff and volunteers will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The well-being of our children is of paramount importance to us and we take all aspects of this very seriously.

All schools have a clear responsibility placed on them by the Children Act 1989 and by guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) to safeguard the welfare of all their pupils.

All school staff at Rackham are aware of their responsibility to identify children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm. Where there are grounds for concern, staff have a duty to take appropriate action and work with other services if required.

Our Safeguarding Policies can be found in our Policy Library section of this website, inside 'Key Information'.

Safeguarding Policy

Occasionally, this duty of the Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputies means a concern is passed on which is later shown to be unfounded. It is hoped that parents and carers will appreciate how difficult it is for schools to carry out this delicate responsibility, and accept that Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputies act in good faith and in the best interests of all children. A referral to Social Care is not intended to be an accusation of any particular action or against any particular person. Parents should be aware that staff may log incidents of concern as part of their safeguarding responsibilities.

Parents are asked to inform the school at the first opportunity of the circumstances surrounding any accidental injury suffered by children while at home.

It is particularly important that parents inform us of any significant incident in their child’s life, for example bereavement, divorce, or a difficult experience with which they may have had trouble processing.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Georgina Turner.

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL): Louise Smith and Anthea Lowes.

Safeguarding Governor: Ellie Senior.

All Senior Designated Safeguarding Leads or Deputies have received training for this role which will be updated regularly. They will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns parents/carers may have about Child Protection Practice.
